ITIN & EIN
ITIN – Individual Taxpayer Identification Number
- All persons owning rental property in the US must have an ITIN – a tax processing number issued by the IRS with nine-digits beginning with a 9, for example 9XX-XXX-XXX
- IRS issues ITINs to individuals who are required to have a US taxpayer identification number but do not have, and are not eligible to obtain a Social Security Number (SSN).
- ITINs are issued regardless of immigration status since resident and non-resident aliens may have US tax return and payment responsibilities under the Internal Revenue Code.
What is an ITIN used for?
- ITINs are for federal tax reporting only, and does not authorize work in the US.
- Provides an efficient way to process non-resident tax returns and payments.
Form W-7 Application for US Taxpayer Identification Number
- In order for us to apply for your ITIN, you should complete, sign and return Form W-7 (one per owner) along with the appropriate identification documentation.
EIN – Employer Identification Number
- An EIN is a nine-digit number assigned by the IRS, to employers, sole proprietors, corporations, partnerships, non-profit associations, trusts, estates of decedents, government agencies, certain individuals and other business entities.
- We can obtain those for business owners directly from the IRS.
